How to properly care for your bands to maximize their longevity:
- Avoid over-exposure to sunlight and heat : Although, we’re big proponents of working out outdoors, excessive sunlight and heat exposure can cause fading and pre-mature cracking of the bands, resulting in a potentially dangerous scenario whereby the band may snap under strain. Your UpFit Athletics brand bands come with a convenient carry bag so you can easily store them away to help reduce exposure.
- Wipe them Down : Wipe your bands down regularly after workouts. This will help them to retain their elasticity and keep them from breaking down over time. You can also wash them on a regular basis by immersing them in room-temp (not hot) water with mild soap, gently rubbing them with your hands, then rinse and pat dry with a towel.
- Use a latex conditioner : Periodically using a latex conditioner on your bands will keep them looking and performing like new! Simply spray some of the product onto a hand towel, then wrap the towel around the band and gently pull the band through to form a light coating along its surface. It’s best to do this AFTER cleaning them, however, to really make the latex shine! Plus, you don’t want slippery bands while working out since that could lead to unnecessary accidents!
- Remember : Latex is an all-natural material derived from trees, so, similar to wood, it is highly resilient but not indestructible. As you would polish wood furniture to make it last, you should also take care of your bands in a similar fashion. You don’t HAVE to clean them after every single use, but making this part of a monthly routine should be more than adequate to help keep your bands looking and performing like new. For reference, we wipe our bands down with a damp cloth after our Friday workout, actually wash them around the first of each month, and then wipe them down with a conditioner approximately every 3 months.
